Car Repairs: What to Do if Your Engine Light Comes On

Casey Automotive • November 17, 2012

There are a number of lights in your car’s instrument cluster that indicate that there is trouble under the hood. To find out more about each light and what to do if one of them illuminates, watch this video clip.

If a red light that says “engine” illuminates, that means your car is probably overheating; in this case, turn your car engine off immediately and get your car towed to a car repair shop to prevent serious damage. If it’s a yellow light that says “check engine,” or simply has a picture of an engine, that means that your car’s onboard computer is having trouble; if this happens, you should take it to a car repair shop right away, but you don’t need to shut off your car and have it towed.
