Troubleshooting Automotive Fluid Leaks
If you see a liquid spill underneath your car, it could be an indication that you need to go to a car repair shop to get your car inspected. To find out which sort of problems are associated with which liquids, watch this video clip.
First, assess the color and the smell of the liquid that’s under your car. If it’s brown, then it’s probably engine oil, which has a distinct oily smell. If it’s pink or red without a distinct smell, it could be transmission fluid. If the liquid is greenish and watery with a sweetish smell, you are looking at engine coolant. It’s also possible that if you find a clear, watery liquid without a smell that your air conditioner or exhaust pipe is dripping water, which is completely normal.
